Whenever I go out I never leave the house without a thick cluster of bracelets layered on one arm.  I definitely don't operate on the old adage that less is more, but that less is well, boring.  The gritty baubles above are certainly statement making pieces and since they're all within the mixed metals family you can get away with piling them on.

baking boot camp

via Patent and the Pantry
I am by no means a culinary craftsman in the kitchen and generally leave the food fare up to the bf while I multi-task with a glass of pinot grigio in one hand and pre-dinner chips and salsa in the other.  However, I have been gradually navigating my way around recipes of the confectionary kind as my intro into cooking/baking and stumbled upon this little pumpkin cupcake number.  Since the thought of making an actual pie gives me anxiety I definitely intend to start out with this fairly reasonable recipe, and then of course, be showered with compliments and praise by my relatives at Thanksgiving.

Manimal Moccasins

suede double fringe bootie in black

suede applique bootie

In the wake of the navajo trend I've been craving a pair of moccasin booties to update my Minnetonka flats from college that have seen better days.  Instead of reverting back to the usual suspects I started exploring other brands that might be off the beaten path, and that's when I came upon Manimal - and almost fell out of my seat after viewing their assortment.  Honestly, their pieces are absolutely amazing and authentic, and you can rest assured that not everyone and their brother will be sporting these fringed kicks.

Like it or not, the turban is back as evidenced by runway and editorial exposure, celebrities, tutorials running rampant in the blogosphere and GASP! The New York Times.  Game over.

No longer just a warm weather style, shorts in every fabrication are becoming seasonless staples with the advent of leg layering.  Fingers crossed that this trend never goes away since it's increased my wardrobe by about 10 fold!

More often then not, I turn to my arsenal of glossies for fashion & style inspiration, but as of late I've taken to websites such as lookbook.nu, glamcanyon and stockholm style that feature authentic looks on our global streets.  These sites offer an intimate view of personal style and ways that people interpret the current trends and display their own aesthetic.  I'm also extremely impressed and absurdly jealous of the 14 and 15 year-olds that are displaying their chic wardrobes on these sites - definitely a far cry from the umbros and adidas sambas of my adolescence.

lusting after lanvin: part deux

Lanvin for H&M one-shoulder dress

So I know I've already posted about Lanvin's collaboration with H&M (I'm not excited or anything), but I recently came across these photos of a fellow blogger who was able to get a hold of some of the pieces prematurely that I've been coveting.  By far, my favorite is the hot pink frock!

perfectly polished

via Lacquerized

Chanel will be debuting a limited edition polish beginning December 1st as part of their Cote d'Azure collection.  "Riva" the breathy blue color, was first seen gracing the fingernails of the 70's inspired nymphs that strutted the resort '11 runway.  Needless to say, when this latest lacquer arrives it will be sure to have everyone longing for messy, beachy locks and bronzed skin.

gold rush

gold mini dress

As we're on the cusp of the holiday soiree season I'm seeing a slew of metallic frocks and I must say, I'm partial to the heavily-encrusted gold confections like the ones pictured above.  They're more sassy than sweet - almost like sheaths of armor, and sure to be a head turner at your next fete.

in good company

via Daily Front Row

At this point in time the collaboration between J. Crew and jewelry designer Lisa Salzer for Lulu Frost is legend.  Jenna Lyons, President and Executive Creative Director of J. Crew had been shopping in L.A when she ventured into Tenoversix where she bought an amazing necklace that prompted her to get in touch with the brand's designer.  From there on out a designer collaboration love story was born with a collection that fused victorian and art deco pieces with modern elements to create the perfect balance between Lulu Frost and J.Crew.  Pieces will be available online and in stores beginning in December for J. Crew's Holiday 2010 season.

lusting after Lanvin

Famed Parisienne designer, Alber Ebaz for Lanvin will be debuting his collaboration with H&M in stores on Nov 20th and pictures have been released of his highly anticipated collection.  The line ranges in price from embellished tees at $39.95 to dresses with layers of tulle and chiffon at $249.   The collection is a fantastic mix of structured pieces that still evoke femininity and movement, and I do have to say that his ruffled one-shoulder frocks might just be making their way into my wardrobe.

luxe lace

I absolutely love the lace trend that is happening right now however, I've seen that there's a fine line between pretty, feminine styles and those pieces that can make you look like, let's be honest, a Victorian hooker.  It's always a safe bet to stick with neutral colors in black, greys and nudes (white can be tough to pull off and is very reminiscent of Madonna in "Like a Virgin").  Also, look for pieces that have simple, easy silohuettes so you're not looking too over the top.

After looking in my closet this morning and finding nothing but dismal options I am vowing to revamp my wardrobe for Fall/Winter - obviously, this will occur on a tight budget.  To find inspiration in what my purchases should be I've actually found it in certain celeb's styles - Rachel Bilson being one of them.  She's a girl that doesn't necessarily buck the trends, but portrays them in a subtle way juxtaposed with simple pieces.  I think that often times, I feel so overwhelmed by the onslaught of trends I can hardly think straight however, I need to take inventory of my closet and make sure that I've at least covered the basics: LBD, amazing skinnies, great multi-functional bag, flats I can run in for days around the office, etc and then maybe I can tackle the whole poncho and cape bananza that's taking over editorial.

frugal fashion

via The Examiner
Now wait just a second - when did Kmart offer an arsenal of fashion forward pieces at incredibly affordable prices?  I have to admit my frugal fashion mainstays are usually Target, H&M and Zara, but this mega-retailer is sporting a bevy of pieces in the form of military inspirted jackets and pretty feminine blouses - the likes of which are chronicled through 4 pages of advertising in the September issue of Vogue (apparently, they mean business).  Their internal website Kmartdesign even boasts fashion how-tos and forecasts in order to help their customer better navigate the current Fall trends.

The zipper detail trend continues and as of late it's adding an unexpected edginess to wardrobe basics that are still perfect candidates for daytime.
