covetable cravats

This would be my sophomore post on the feminine bow tie because I am absolutely obsessed with the look, which is also why it's so picture heavy.  Although it can come off androgynous in an Annie Hall type of way it can also evoke a bit of old school glamour.  Last night, when out to dinner I donned my little ruffled confection of a top paired with skinny jeans and gold Tory Burch flats.  At first, I thought it could be a bit over the top, but by untying the bow to be worn loose and throwing a leather jacket over the look toned it down a bit.

bow ties: borrowed from the boys

Alexa Chung
The bow tie in all it's forms whether it be channeling Sinatra or Colonel Sanders is seeing a reincarnation in the fashion world.  I never thought this day would come, but I find myself a fan of our little angst-ridden Miley's ensemble.  The bow tie on this D&G frock isn't too gimicky and adds a faint touch of quirkiness and androgyny.  Alexa Chung proves that when donning a bow tie it can serve as an unexpected accessory to an otherwise overtly feminine outfit.

More often then not, I turn to my arsenal of glossies for fashion & style inspiration, but as of late I've taken to websites such as lookbook.nu, glamcanyon and stockholm style that feature authentic looks on our global streets.  These sites offer an intimate view of personal style and ways that people interpret the current trends and display their own aesthetic.  I'm also extremely impressed and absurdly jealous of the 14 and 15 year-olds that are displaying their chic wardrobes on these sites - definitely a far cry from the umbros and adidas sambas of my adolescence.
