Wu-ed by Target

It was a chilly Sunday morning in February.  I awoke unusually early giddy with anticipation.  Throwing on Lululemon capris, a down puffer and running shoes (comfortable clothing and footwear would be of the up-most importance) I headed to Target for the premier of Jason Wu for Target.  I had been prepping for this moment for weeks - lifting weights in case it came down to hand-to-hand combat over a pleated chiffon skirt, and chugging Gatorade and downing protein bars for endurance.  Actually, no I had decided the night before that I would give it a go because usually I'm the schmuck who ends up horribly overpaying on ebay for designer collaborations from H&M and Target (i.e. conscious collection and Cynthia Vincent).
Sick and tired of being sick and tired I headed to the store about 15 min prior to opening and I have to say I had really underestimated my fellow Mid-westerners and was not expecting a line that long (and yes, we were all clad in our capris and running shoes.)  Now anxiety-ridden due to the large crowd I filed in (OK, sprinted - I got caught up in the moment) once the doors opened,  I have to say that I was fairly impressed with the collection and felt a sense of satisfaction leaving the store this morning with my spoils in hand knowing that I wouldn't have to troll ebay and pay twice the price for my $34 stripe tee.  All in all it was worth it.

covetable cravats

This would be my sophomore post on the feminine bow tie because I am absolutely obsessed with the look, which is also why it's so picture heavy.  Although it can come off androgynous in an Annie Hall type of way it can also evoke a bit of old school glamour.  Last night, when out to dinner I donned my little ruffled confection of a top paired with skinny jeans and gold Tory Burch flats.  At first, I thought it could be a bit over the top, but by untying the bow to be worn loose and throwing a leather jacket over the look toned it down a bit.

Look for Less

Tie-neck blouse

Tiny dots ribbon blouse
I've been obsessed with Emersonmade's tiny dots ribbon blouse since it first debuted, but just couldn't seem to justify a $128 price tag.  Lo and behold I ran into Gap the other day to find a similar version that just happened to be on sale for $34.50.  Granted, my blouse might be slightly more akin to a boozy 70s lounge singer, but will still have the same effect tucked into dark denim as the one I'm coveting from Emersonmade.

I have to admit that at first I was a little hesitant with the onslaught of the blouse trend because if I was going to invest in a piece then I didn't want an item that was too prissy or fussy (and of course, something that didn't sacrifice comfort). Lo and behold, Equipment quickly became an editorial darling and I was transfixed by a line that offered the right amount of structure and slouch.
