NYFW: Street Style

{images via Elle, Vogue}

Possibly more exciting than the shows themselves is the style seen pounding the pavement in Miu Miu booties (a la TheManRepeller) during NYFW.  Of course, in order to get snapped by the photogs you have to dress the part.  In comes pops of color, excessive amounts of bling and statement making bags to catch the eye of the cameras.  Below, are some noteworthy bits and baubles that demand attention.

Olivia Palermo for Tibi lovefest

Yes, it is Valentine's Day and although I should be compelled to post about feelings and all that nonsense I'm incredibly uncomfortable with emotion so I thought I would chat about Olivia Palermo's newest campaign for Tibi.  Olivia was recruited for the Spring '11 web campaign where she dons Tibi garb of her own choosing along with her own personal baubles and accessories in order to style her own looks.  I know that Olivia is lauded for her style, and I myself am a fan, but I'm somewhat skeptical that she styled this entire online campaign herself - you're not fooling me, Olivia.  Nevertheless, I'm absolutely obsessed with the amazing elephant belt and the trench with the fantastically pleated collar.

Wills and Kate

 Those clever Brits!  A shockingly non-tacky royal souvenir to commemorate the big day.  Admittedly, I really want these little mittens, but since I'm across the pond I'd feel more appropriate sporting a "Brad" and "Angelina" pair if that day ever came.  Available here if you just aren't able to resist.

Amidst the 70s bohemian and dusty desert palette trends coming in for Spring a warm weather mainstay is back yet again.  Nautical inspired clothing and accessories and traditional Breton stripes are being seen in full force among major retailer's Resort/Spring collections.  At this point, your closet is most likely stocked with stripes, but consider different silhouettes this season such as J.Crew's maritime dress and Madewell's bold shorts to shake up your wardrobe.

Ok, so it might only be the first day of February so I know this post is coming off as awfully aggressive, but I had to share these little V-day inspired trinkets and prints that I came across.  Of course I made it a point to choose the most campy and kitschy I could find (and absurdly straightforward) because Valentine's day doesn't have to always be serious right?

cold weather essentials by klatch520 featuring cable knit sweaters

As I was sitting in the middle of my bedroom surrounded by clothes and attempting to prep for our Colorado trip I had an epiphany.  Instead of struggling with what to wear for our apres ski activities (my actual snowboarding attire is already covered) I'm going to stick with a no-fail uniform:  fleece-lined leggings (I hate pants and these are surprisingly warm) and chunky oversized sweaters that are long enough to cover my bum (a must).  All I have to do is top it off with some waterproof boots, which will most likely be my Hunters, but I couldn't resist these little duck boots from Lands End, slouchy boot socks and a military-inspired parka.  Done and done.

(silk floral Madewell dress, Etoile Isabel Marant military anorak, Asos skinny belt, Madewell over-the-knee socks, Jeffrey Campbell platform sandal)

With the weather being in flux and a wardrobe divided I've decided to pair Summer pieces with early Fall staples.  I love the look of a belted, wispy dress outfitted with a military anorak to create that boy/girl tension.  The ribbed knee-high socks worn with the platforms add a certain quirkiness to the ensemble, but the suede and studs of the sandal still keep it sophisticated.
